PROGRAM GOAL
To teach the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to safely and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding individual’s right to selfdefense in the home.
This course is for law-abiding adult (21 years or older) and experienced shooter. Prospective participants can demonstrate that they have the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitude by producing and NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, NRA First Steps Certificate, Military DD 214 with pistol qualification, or passing the Pre-Course Assessment.
The NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home (PPITH) builds on the skills already learned in the NRA Basic Pistol course. NRA PPITH is not a basic course, participants must be experienced shooters able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling and shooting a group, to maximize what can be learned from this course.
Course Outline: During this eight-hour course, the student will learn the basic defensive shooting skills, how to respond to a violent confrontation, and strategies for home safety.

Lesson II: Basic Defensive Handgun Skills (Range Time)
Lesson III: Firearms and the Law: Possession, Ownership, and the Use of Deadly Force
Lesson IV: Strategies for Home Safety and Responding to a Violent Confrontation
Lesson V: Selecting a Handgun for Self-Defense
Lesson VI: Sport Shooting Activities and Training Opportunities
Lesson VII: Course Review and Examination
